A school built so that no bright child is left behind
Empathy Community High School was founded under Empathy Children Initiative to give the children of Mayuge and neighbouring districts what they were missing: affordable, reliable secondary education.
Our story
How ECHS began
In Mayuge District, many children who finish primary school with strong marks stop learning because no one can pay for secondary school. Orphans and children raising younger siblings face the same wall even more often.
Empathy Children Initiative answered with a school: classrooms, a boarding facility, five houses, and a commitment that tuition will never be the reason a child at ECHS goes home. We opened with Senior 1, added Senior 2, and grow a class at a time.

What we hold to
To provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality secondary education for vulnerable children, empowering them with knowledge, values, and skills to build a just and balanced future. Founded in 2024 by the Empathy Children Initiative, our school serves as a beacon of hope for underserved communities in Mayuge District, Eastern Uganda.
Dignity
Every student is addressed, fed, housed and taught as a person of worth, not a case number.

Clear routines and high expectations, enforced by staff who know each child by name.
Learning first
Classrooms, labs and libraries get priority in every budget decision we make.
Community
Parents, alumni, volunteers and donors all answer to the same question: is the child better off today?
The houses
Five houses, named for the people who backed us
Boarding life is organised around five houses. Each has its own dormitory, matron or patron, and an identity students carry through their four years of O-Level.

Daily life
The school is swept before the first lesson
Boarding life runs on routines students keep themselves: cleaning, queuing, prep and lights out. It is how a school of this size stays a home.

Safeguarding
Every child is safe here, that is the baseline
ECHS follows a written child protection policy. Staff and volunteers are vetted, reports of harm are taken seriously and acted on, and students have named adults in each house they can talk to privately. Bullying, hazing in houses, and any form of abuse lead to immediate discipline.
